If your mover is doing the packing, arrange for it to be done one or two days before loading begins. Make sure you will be there to observe them and provide direction.
Local moves are not required to provide detailed inventory.
Gather valuable personal papers that you may need at your final destination location, including medical and dental records, school records, birth certificates, moving papers, etc.
Separate the kid’s favorites toys and one or two change of clothes for all family members.

If you are going to do your own packing, start at least 4 weeks before the intended moving date.
Packing is much more time consuming than it appears. If you leave to the last day, you will not sleep, the movers will arrive and you will not be ready. Movers do not carry unboxed items.
Use new cardboard boxes and tape them on the bottom and on the top (use 2” tape). Do not use plastic bags or boxes that cannot be closed and sealed.
Pack heavy items (such books and dishes) in small boxes, leave the large boxes for light items such as pillows.
Wrap fragile items in tissue or bubble cushioning. Use white wrapping paper to protect your dishes - newspaper can stain them.
Mark each box with the room in the new house where they should be placed and make an inventory list of the contents.
If you will need something immediately when you arrive at your new home, take it with you—do not pack it.
Keep an emergency medical kit available. Make sure your current medication you are taking are packed in it and any other over the counter medication you may need such as aspirin.
You should also keep handy basic toiletries and toilet paper.
